Mint created new opportunities for Detroit youth in 2024, with more Minterns than ever before, and plenty of firsts, including our art in ArtPrize. We grew our creative footprint and set records in our reach and our creative youth employment. And with your donations and support, we expect to continue to grow in 2025.
Here then is our annual success by the numbers for 2024:
1 The number of Detroit Lions paintings created by a Mint Artist; one that now is a Mint sticker.
3 Minterns, our term for our awesome Mint Interns, who worked with us through The School at Marygrove’s design internships, our first year connected. Two of the three (shown below) joined us in the summer jobs. We also welcomed two Minterns from Culture Source – Bloomberg Arts Internships inaugural summer program in Detroit.
9 weeks of free arts and crafts in Palmer Park, Detroit, this year, funded only by Mint and a few monthly donors.
12 Mint Artists and Minterns who received a Launch micro grant for creative projects. Mint also played a major role in launching the Launch Awards with DEYA.
26 Paint Detroit with Generosity paintings created this summer for a wide variety of local nonprofits. They are on display at The Skillman Foundation through early March, on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays.
55  Small Joys paintings Mint shared at ArtPrize, Mint’s first entry into the giant Grand Rapids art festival. We were among 1,644 artists from around the world who registered.
57 Paintings and photographs in our Justice and Joy exhibit at Gallery 100, Mint’s first ever exhibit in Chelsea, MI. We also highlighted justice books for children, thanks to the Chelsea District Library. The show is up through Jan. 5.
60 YouTube subscribers to Mint’s growing channel, double the number since the springtime when our Minterns created new content. Check out creative career advice, too, selected by our executive director.
629 Children who participated and took home coloring pages and treats from Mint at Scarefest in Palmer Park in late October.
$53,500 – record amount earned by our Mint Creative Summer Jobs artists, Minterns and artists in June through August. They learned to create mosaics, linoleum cut prints, Japanese shodo, or calligraphy and more in just seven weeks with Mint.
If you are impressed with this success list, and want to help us achieve more in 2025 – more youth training and jobs, more happy children, more paintings for nonprofits – we encourage you to make a gift to our growing nonprofit today.
