THE BIG IDEA: Teach business skills to young artists and give them opportunities to sell
Our first program teaches talented young artists business, career and life skills as they prepare to sell their work at a fine art fair in Detroit. This program is focused on Detroit area emerging artists who are in high school, and also is open to Detroit area artists ages 18 to 21 who are not in college full-time. They must be self-starters who show up and make a lot of art.
Artists from Detroit and the suburbs attend workshops on pricing, promotion, preparing for an event, talking about their art and more. They learn to protect their work by understanding copyright and intellectual property law. They receive e-letters with tips and ideas, mentoring and opportunities to show and pop up with Mint. If they attend and participate in our workshops and mentoring, they are ready for the Palmer Park Art Fair or Belle Isle Art Fair or the Grosse Pointe Art Fair. Artists’ training is free and they pay a small commission to participate with Mint at fairs and events.
