Belle Isle Art Fair and a beautiful garden party await you
August will bring so much beauty to metro Detroit with summer’s lush fruits and vegetables and flowers. Mint will be part of two beautiful art events, one in a beautiful Detroit park and the other in an artist’s art-filled home and garden in West Bloomfield.
The Belle Isle Art Fair on Aug. 7 and 8 features three Mint Artists selling their work amid 100 professional artists. And Mint also will showcase some of its interactive art activities for guests. The art fair is held next to Scott Fountain on Belle Isle, a state park, and offers a relaxing retreat from daily life.
Then on Aug. 12, artist, art patron and psychotherapist Ellen Stone will open her West Bloomfield home and gardens for one evening to benefit Mint Artists Guild.
Ms. Stone’s eclectic collection is a jolt to the senses and the gardens a wonderland experience like no other. This unique art collection will be revealed for the first time to the public. Her collection includes unique furniture, décor and hundreds of paintings and sculptures including works from Joan Miro, Alexander Calder, Max Fleischer and numerous local artists.
The 4 to 8 pm event is a fundraiser for Mint Artists Guild. Guests must purchase tickets for the VIP tour of Ms. Stone’s home, which was featured in a Detroit News article. The complete ticket price goes to Mint Artists Guild; buy tickets now here.
The Garden party features 10 Detroit area artists selling their original artwork including Ms. Stone. Among them are two Mint board members Kelly O’Neill and Charlene Uresy, and artists Richard Phillips, Joe Lamontagne, Priscilla Phifer, Paul Robertson and Donald Calloway. (Calloway has spoken at several Mint workshops and hosted a Mint fundraiser at his Greektown studio. Ellen Stone donated a piece for the first Mint Masterpieces fundraiser and many canvases for our youth artists’ to use.) Art for sale on Aug. 12 includes metal and mixed media sculpture, paintings, and furniture.
There is no cost to attend the outdoor Garden Art Party, however a donation to Mint Artists Guild is appreciated. To attend the event and preview artist profiles, visit the Facebook event page .
At the Belle Isle Art Fair, Mint will feature work by Prince Matthews, who comes from a family of Detroit artists. Prince graduated from Cass Technical High School. His colorful acrylic pours work wonderfully in offices and homes.
And Mint will offer original youth art and Mint greeting cards for sale. Mint Artists will lead a make-and-take art activity for the festival, and will bring two Belle Isle – themed coloring pages for children or adults.
Guests to the Belle Isle Art Fair who arrive by car must have a state parks pass and may visit the new Oudolf Garden or other attractions on Belle Isle too. Hope to see you on Belle Isle and in Ellen Stone’s garden too.
